Underage and Problem Gambling

You must be 18 years of age or older to gamble in Washington State. Underage gambling is illegal and a civil infraction. The penalty includes a fine of up to $125, up to four days of community restitution, court costs, and losing your winnings.

On October 6, 2009, we began a statewide Communications, Education, & Awareness Program for underage gambling and the risks associated with it. Together with the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling, we will be conducting joint presentations to schools, community groups, law enforcement, parents, PTAs and School Safety Officers in 2010. Combining the messages of underage gambling and problem gambling allows us to effectively get the word out about the risks associated with underage and how it can lead to problem gambling. Help is available 24/7 at the Problem Gambling Helpline: (800) 547-6133
