Dave Trujillo – DEPUTY DIRECTOR
Dave Trujillo was appointed Deputy Director with the
Washington State Gambling Commission in July 2009.
Though born in Albuquerque, Dave grew up in Central Washington graduating from
Ellensburg High School in 1981. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Western
Washington University and soon after a Bachelor of Science from Central
Washington University. He completed the Basic Law Enforcement Academy at the
Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC) and later obtained Supervisory
Certification and Middle Management Certification from CJTC. Dave is licensed by
the Washington State Board of Accountancy as a Certified Public Accountant
(CPA).
During his time with the Gambling Commission, Dave has been a Special Agent in
Field Operations, Financial Investigations, and Tribal Gaming and a Special
Agent Supervisor in charge of the Criminal Intelligence Unit where he completed
the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs Intelligence Officer
Training. He became the Administrator in charge of Licensing Services and was
later promoted to Assistant Director of the Licensing Operations Division, which
included Licensing Services, Licensing and Background Investigations, Public
Disclosure, and Financial Reporting. Today, he oversees all operating divisions,
which include the Field Operations Division, the Tribal and Technical Gambling
Division, and the Licensing Operations Division. He also serves on the Agency
Leadership Team, Rules Action Team, Firearms/Use of Force Team, Safety
Committee, Commission Action Team, Performance Management Confirmation Team, and
the Legislative Team.
Dave is a past recipient of the Washington State Leadership Award from Secretary
of State Sam Reed and the Gambling Commission’s "Director's Leadership Award."
Since 1998, he has been actively involved with the Washington Society of
Certified Public Accountants, a membership organization which advocates for the
CPA profession. Currently, Dave is one of the State Board of Directors, Chair of
the Professional Conduct Committee (ethics committee), and he also participates
locally as a board member and past president of the Olympia area chapter.
Participating in ethics work at the state level requires that he work
occasionally with the Professional Ethics Division of the American Institute of
Certified Public Accountants.
For the past several years, Dave has served on the NOVA Middle School Finance
Committee (a private middle school located in Olympia). Recently, he began
serving on the St. Michael School Commission. St. Michael School is a private
Catholic elementary and middle school also located in Olympia.
Dave has made his home in the Lacey/Olympia area with his wife and family.
